Professional Product Photography

RallyWays offers professional product photography for your line of goods. The process is simple. You ship us the samples, we photograph them and we ship them back. We then provide you with balanced, color-corrected photos.

RallyWays offers true professional quality product photography. Not everyone that claims to shoot quality photos or possesses professional level photography equipment  can provide the type of photos you actually need.

Many photographers have a lot of experience shooting dramatic, low depth of field, wide angle, portrait or landscape photography. However, proper professional product photography is a completely different animal and only those that truly possess experience shooting product specifically can actually do it right.

The lens choices are different. Aperture numbers are different. Filtering is different. Artificial lighting using a combination of soft and hard lights is key. Even the distance at which the subjects are shot are considerably different than when photographing people. Just as importantly, maintaining a cohesive balance of placement, lighting, color balance and geometry are absolutely critical to a successful photo set. In the end, creating a full series of professional product photos is an art in itself.

Danny Cruz and RallyWays have worked on dozens of product photoshoot since 2007. This equates to thousands of product photos that have been used in press catalogs, online stores, online catalogs, magazine ads, web ads and much, much more. Industries include automotive, bicycles, sunglasses and technical parts.

We provide color correcting, balancing, cleanup and clipping services for the photos of products we shoot. We can even provide complex superimposition if you need logos, labels or color variations. Say for example you only have prototype products and you need variations created from a single model. We can do that.

If you plan to sell your products online in a Shopify, WooCommerce, Big Commerce or WIX store, you NEED to have proper professional photos. Photos do the selling and the differences between pro photos and ones you shot at the shop with your phone, or even an expensive camera, are huge. Professional product photography done right isn’t easy. You can’t just ask your local portrait photographer to do it, because they’re simply not going to be up to par.

Too many times we’ve seen company owners hire someone to do their product photos, because that person claims to be a photographer, only to be disappointed with the results and end up calling us to start the job over. It would have been much better, and much less expensive to just to it right, the first time.

A Testament You Dedication & Years of Experience

RallyWays started in 2012 as a local car blog that covered local events and Cars & Coffee car meets in San Diego and Orange County California. This start led to meeting many key personalities in the car scene in Southern California.Over the years we took the car scene experience, a flourishing blog and a growing social media following and merged it with previous knowledge of design, marketing, SEO, brand development and product photography. This experience allowed us to work with the most prominent paint protection shop in the US, and to develop and maintain the website of one of the most influential ceramic coating companies in the world.

Tell A Story With Each and Every Photo

Sometimes a product photo shoot requires additional images set over creative backgrounds in order to supplement the default white background catalog images. It’s as these times where your product has to be showcased in action or telling a story. We are experts in this kind of supplemental imagery.
Professional Catalog Style Clean Look

Clear Background and a Polished Finish

The standard clear background or white background catalog style image is still king when it comes to displaying your products for sale. These photos must be simple, consistent, and most of all, flawless. This type of photo takes the most time to set up and to post-process. It’s where portrait photographers tend to fall apart.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pro Product Photography

Some people assume that product photography is just like taking pictures of people, cars or landscapes. The fact of the matter is, product photography requires an entire unique skillset. Here are some frequently asked questions we receive regarding the topic.

There’s a lot more to product photography than having a good camera. Some things to considering are the lens you will be using in order to reduce distortion, what combination of hard lights and soft lights, and the use of shaping tools like white cards and black cards. Additionally, you have to consider using correct white balance, color correction, consistency between shots and post-processing skills. Almost all product photos we’ve seen shot by portrait photographers have some sort of problem. They are either shot too close, they are not sharp from to back, or have some sort of shape distortion. Even if you can manage to take decent photos, the post-processing to turn these into usable photos for catalogs or online stores requires an entire set of skills. In many cases, photos need to be clipped to achieve transparent or white backgrounds. And no, using the “magic-wand” or AI is not the way to achieve professional clips.

A soft light box provides diffused lighting, but professionals use multiple controlled light sources, reflectors, and modifiers to eliminate unwanted shadows and glare. These light combos can also be used to enhance texture, and create depth. Additionally, there are certain things that cannot be achieved with just soft-lighting. Carbon fiber for example, doesn’t “pop” well or look deep enough in photos that are lit with just soft-boxes. In fact, most products end up flat and badly shaped unless a good combination of soft and hard lights in specific spots are used.

This is where most amateur photographers falls short. There is a lot you can do to reduce post-processing time. However, product photography is one of the facets of photography that requires the most post-processing out of any other photo type – except maybe high fashion modeling. Professional photos undergo detailed editing, including background cleanup, color correction, sharpening, and removal of dust scratches and imperfection. This results polished, flawless presentation of products. Additionally, scaling between families of products, background clipping superimposition of various elements, specially on pre-production products are also very important and almost always a big part of any product line photoshoot.

The reason pricing per photo is somewhat higher as compared to other photography disciplines is because the price of the entire photoshoot is distributed between each photo collectively. The price is not based on just shooting a photo of a product. The price is based on extensive setup time, careful lighting adjustments and white-balancing resulting in multiple test shots. Once a workflow is in order, how the photoshoot goes will depend on how different each product is from the others and how many angles might be needed. Finally, in most cases, the price per photo and price of the entire photo set includes the post-processing time that will be distributed between all the images.
