Here is a fantastic video of the Nürburgring 24HR race by none other than Chris Harris. When I say fantastic, I mean truly fantastic.
Chris Harris is one of the great talents of the car world. He would also have my vote as the ultimate Top Gear host now that Jeremy Clarkson is gone. However, what’s most impressive to me is how he and his team take a medium like YouTube, that can generally be so simple and put together productions worthy of the most prized TV spots.
Watch the video
All Chris Harris videos are entertaining. This one is special. There’s a reason it has only been up for a couple of hours and it’s already at over 50,000 views. Who knows how many views by now when you are reading this.
I’m most blown away by the sheer elegance and excitement put forth through the entire video. The rain, the darkness, the speed and most of all, the amazing cars present in this pinnacle of racing events.
I personally have not had the opportunity to be present at the Nürburgring, but thankfully, RallyWays writer Philippe Govaerts has — and that includes more than one Nürburgring 24 Hour race.
The careful selection of tires, specially when parts of the track were wet and parts weren’t. Then the careful selection of driver stints, all come together into what can only be described as a game of chess, on the track. And the car… That Aston Martin GT12. What a beauty! To think it’s also road legal. Well, maybe not in California… but still. 100 road-going versions of this same car were sold. Surprisingly, due to rules of the Nürburgring 24 Hr, the road cars actually have 50 more horsepower than the Aston Martin GT12 Chris Harris and team mates drove in this race.
Now, the fate of the car, I will not talk about exactly. You can watch the video and learn for yourself.
For those of us that haven’t had the opportunity and privilege to attend an event like this, we’re thankful for people like Chris Harris, for putting together such an inspiring and enjoyable production.
