The Miata Book Every Fan Should Own

The Miata Book Every Fan Should Own

After a day of driving your favorite car on the road or track, there is nothing more fun than getting in your easy chair with a good book about… well, about that favorite car obviously!

Although maybe you don’t own a Miata at this very moment, things might change after reading the Miata book we’re about to review.

A quick search on Amazon tells me that there are plenty of books on the market about the most popular roadster of all time, Mazda’s MX-5 Miata. With a 25 year history and around 1 million cars produced to date, there is a lot to write about.

Miata Book Sample 5 - Mazda MX-5 Miata: Twenty Five Years

I immediately noticed though, that most of the recent publications you can buy today are workshop manuals, or books that tell you about one particular Miata generation. However, there is one exception, and that is a quite recent release written by Road and Track’s senior editor Thomas Bryant. It is the book called Mazda MX-5 Miata: Twenty-Five Years.

This Miata book covers the entire history of the car, from the development stage and the first prototypes of the NA model, to the NB and the most recent facelift of the NC generation. Since it was published in November 2014, only a little bit is written about the ND model, including a couple early prototype renders, which is perfectly normal of course.

Mazda MX-5 Miata: Twenty-Five Years is well written and easy to read. It features 160 pages and is well-documented with over 300 (yes, three-hundred!) pictures in it, from pre-production sketches and designs to older and newer advertising posters, pictures that were used for Mazda’s sales brochure as well as images from the most notable special editions that were produced. Because the MX-5 is one of the most popular track day cars and race cars out there, there is of course a motorsport section in the book as well. As Miata books go, this is clearly a winner.

Where to Buy

I highly recommend this book to any Miata fan like myself. With a price tag of only $29.70 USD at the moment on Amazon, it’s a good bang for your buck. The only thing I personally miss in this book is a page that gives a detailed technical comparison sheet on the different Miata generations, but of course not everyone would be interested in that.
