Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax Review – Paste or Liquid

Meguiar's Ultimate Wax Review - Liquid or Paste

Car waxes are classified as natural or synthetic. Natural waxes are carnauba and synthetic are polymer-based. Synthetic waxes are often called paint sealants because synthetic waxes have the reputation of being more durable.

Here we are looking at Meguiar’s Ultimate Liquid Wax and Meguiar’s Ultimate Paste Wax – both are synthetic polymer waxes. The liquid and paste versions of the wax are essentially the same formulation but in either liquid or paste form. I tend to favor the Ultimate Liquid Wax but simply because I find it ever-so-slightly easier to work with. I do however use both and love them quite a bit.

Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax Review

Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax is more durable than Meg’s carnauba versions, such as Deep Crystal Carnauba or Gold Class Carnauba. It smells quite a bit different too – more like candy if you ask me. Don’t eat it though. Additionally, you really have to be an expert and have waxed the same car many times over with carnauba and synthetic to be able to tell the difference. Meg’s Ultimate Wax lends a finish that’s deep and beautiful and sometimes begs the question, “Why use carnauba at all?”

I’ll answer that then.

The reasons for Meguiar’s carnauba wax over Meguiar’s synthetic wax would be:

  1. You enjoy waxing your car often
  2. You are entering you car at car shows and want the deepest finish
  3. You like the traditional look and feel of natural car wax

The reasons for Meguiar’s synthetic wax over Meguiar’s carnauba wax would be:

  1. You want a more durable coat of wax
  2. You car sleeps outside
  3. You prefer a more technologically advanced wax

In theory, Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic Wax will give better paint protection than carnauba. In the end however, waxing more often is always better. Wiping off bird poop and other contaminants from your paint as well as washing often is the best thing you can do for your paint between waxing.

Another benefit to Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax is that it doesn’t turn plastics and rubbers hazy-white like carnauba wax does. This doesn’t mean you’re going to be careless in the application. This just means that if you screw up and touch a bit of plastic trim you’re not going to ruin it like it happens with carnauba wax. I still cover my plastic trim with masking tape regardless of what wax I’m running.

In my garage there will always be a place for both synthetic and carnauba waxes. I tend to use Meg’s synthetic on my daily driver and on my wife’s car. These see harsher conditions that the RallyWays Miata, so the brilliance and durability balance I get out of this wax, paste or liquid, is very welcome. The wax is very easy to apply and to remove. I’ll sometimes use it after a waterless wash or a quick detail.

There is a reason Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax is so popular. Everywhere you go on the web you’re going to find that Meg’s Ultimate Wax is usually rocking 5 stars in most customer product reviews. This is something unique to a product that is so readily availably everywhere. This level of performance and satisfaction is usually reserved for products that are a bit more exclusive and harder to find.

Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax Review

Mind you, this is NOT an $8 car wax. The price for Meguiar’s Ultimate Liquid Wax and Meguiar’s Ultimate Paste Wax usually hovers around $23. That said, I like this wax more than some waxes I’ve paid $50 for. $23 is a no-brainer when you’re going to spend a big chunk of your weekend making your car looking the best while also protecting your investment. Oh, and one more thing… the cheap $8 waxes don’t come with extras. Depending one which you buy, Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax can arrive with an applicator and a microfiber towel. Don’t quote me there though – Mine came with that but like any product, available packages can vary.
