Pearl White Subaru WRX Hatchback Owner’s Experience

2013 Pearl White Subaru WRX Owner's Experience

I have been in love with turbocharged cars since I was in high school. I had the privilege of putting in many hours of wrench time on a classmate’s Mitsubishi Evo VII. Once I was able to get behind the wheel and feel the surge, I was hooked on boost.

Fast forward a decade and I was able to purchase my dream car; a 2013 Pearl White Subaru WRX Hatchback. This was a perfect vehicle for me. It is a much more comfortable daily driver than the aforementioned Evo, not to mention more fuel efficient and cheaper to insure. I never thought those types of things would factor into my dream car, but your outlook changes the older and more financially liable you become.

What was my draw to the WRX? I love the muscular front fenders and the exaggerated curved rear fenders. Simply put, it looks sexy. Advertisements suggest that love is what makes a Subaru and Subaru, but for me, it’s the distinct sound of the exhaust, known as the Subaru Rumble. When you hear that purr, you automatically know it’s a Subaru and that distinction is what makes Subaru stand out.

Why the hatchback? I love the proportions of the body lines. It has such a sleek look that causes it to be more distinctive than the sedans. Having a hatchback also adds more practicality as a daily driver. You can fold down the back seats and immediately have as much cargo space as that of a small SUV. You just can’t get that out of a sedan. It also gives my dog the opportunity to spread out as much as she needs. It saddens me that automakers think that America hates hatches, when in reality the enthusiasts love them. I think the issue here is that most of the hatches we get here in the US are in an attempt to have mass appeal in order to play it safe.

Why white? I once saw a white WRX hatch on the freeway, lowered, with black wheels. It was superb. I knew instantly that I had to have that shade of pearl white. To me, the road presence that the WRX hatch has is immeasurable. The hood scoop, the quad exhausts, the color, it all added up.

So what is it like owning my dream car? I love it. However, there is a constant battle between wanting to upgrade the go fast bits and accentuating the aggressive exterior. For now the exterior will be getting the custom treatment because I have a warranty that I am in no hurry to void. There’s that damn adulthood sensibility again…
